Appeal for witnesses after serious road traffic collision in Northampton this morning

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in Northampton this morning.

The collision happened at 7.50am on the eastbound carriageway of the A45 at the Barnes Meadow flyover.

For reasons yet unknown, a car being driven by a woman in her 60s, crossed the carriageway a number of times, hitting the safety barriers and a street lamp before coming to a rest on the grass verge.

Emergency services attended the scene and the motorist was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry for treatment where she remains in a life threatening condition.

Officers investigating the collision would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it or who may have any information about what happened.

The eastbound carriageway of the A45 has re-opened, however, the slip road from the Bedford Road roundabout to the A45 remains closed.
