Reassurance offered following malicious communications
March 12, 2018
Statement from Chief Inspector Lara Alexander-Lloyd in response to offensive malicious communications
“I am aware that a number of people in different parts of the UK have this weekend received a letter encouraging the recipients to target people they believe to be of the Islamic faith.
“The contents of the letter are highly offensive and, although we haven’t had any reports of people receiving them in Northamptonshire, I want to take this opportunity to reassure people that we take this issue extremely seriously.
“Everyone has the right to go about their lives without being in fear of being targeted purely because of their beliefs or appearance. This letter seeks to cause fear and offense while at the same time dividing our communities.
“I urge anyone who has received a copy of the letter to report it to us so it can form part of the national investigation into the malicious communication.
“I also want to reiterate that we take all incidents of hate crime seriously in Northamptonshire and urge anyone who has been targeted because of who they are to report the incident online with True Vision at report-it.org.uk or to police by calling 101.”
