Northamptonshire Police officer all set to walk length of UK

April 16, 2018

A Northamptonshire police officer is all set to walk the length of the United Kingdom to raise money for a mental health charity.

PC Louise O’Sullivan will join PC Tyrone Powell from Thames Valley Police as they set off on Thursday, April 26, from Land's End in Cornwall on a journey to John O'Groats at the very tip of Scotland.

The pair are hoping to complete the 1,000 mile walk in just over a month, covering 25-30 miles per day, with no rest days. They’ll be taking only what will fit in their rucksacks and living, cooking and sleeping outside in their tents.

The walk is to raise funds for mental health charity, Mind - specifically for its Blue Light Programme which provides resources, advice and support for members of all of the emergency services.

PC Louise O’Sullivan, said: “It’s less than two weeks to go before Tyrone and I embark on this journey and we’re keen to raise as much awareness and money as possible for this cause.

“Mind’s Blue Light Programme focuses specifically on the mental ill-health of those who work within the emergency services – people who are often exposed to distressing situations on a daily basis.

“We hope to raise awareness by completing this walk as well as contribute to tackling the stigma around mental health.”
