Rape Ruins Lives
A campaign by Northamptonshire Police and the Northamptonshire Rape and Incest Crisis Centre (NRICC) is designed to drive home the consequences of committing a serious sexual offence to offenders and potential offenders.
The campaign aims to educate those men (and sometimes women) who may not fully realise the implications of their actions, as well as spell out the serious consequences to those who do not seem to care.
Just because a woman doesn't say ‘no' or physically try to resist, it doesn't mean she is consenting to sex. She may be frightened, she may have had too much too drink - and if someone is excessively drunk, in law they cannot consent to sex.
The consequences are far reaching - as well as a lengthy prison sentence and being placed on the sex offender register, a conviction for rape or any other crime can place significant restrictions on career choices, severely affect job prospects and limit overseas travel. In other words, it's life changing.
Rape can be life changing for the victim too. If you or anyone you know has been raped or sexually assaulted, help and support is available. We would always encourage someone to report it to the police but if you don't want to do that, there are other organisations available that can support you. Click here to find out more.
We know that rape can happen to men too and the police and other agencies will provide the same level of support to you as they would to a woman. If you've been a raped or sexually assaulted, whether you're a woman or a man, please tell someone who can help you.
