What is the situation in Northamptonshire?
Modern Day slavery exists in Northamptonshire.
This is complex criminality that has exploitation at its very core.
Modern Slavery is often hidden in plain sight and you may well have witnessed it without even knowing it.
What is Northamptonshire Police doing to tackle this global issue?
The answer is as complex as the criminality itself. In short we are educating, raising awareness and working towards identifying potential victims and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
Once suspected cases of modern slavery are identified we work with partners and independent charities to locate, engage with and safeguard victims.
The force’s intelligence team includes a group of dedicated officers who are specifically focused on modern slavery, developing intelligence and supporting planned safeguarding visits to locations where it is suspected to be happening. During these visits, officers, police staff and partners engage with victims on a one-to-one basis to try to build trust and confidence.
Safeguarding visits have led to a number of potential victims being safeguarded and referred to the National Referral Mechanism.
We continue to monitor businesses that attract low paid manual labour, conducting random visits as well as monitoring websites offering adult services.
The number of suspected cases of modern slavery is on the increase. This is a global problem and everybody has a part to play in combatting this issue.
